The Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife has been thrown
into mourning following the sudden death of a senior professor, Jimoh
Olanipekun, who fell ill during a departmental meeting on Wednesday.
A statement issued by the university’s Public Relations
Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, said Olanipekun began breathing abnormally during
the meeting and was rushed to the University Health and Medical Centre.
“After an initial examination, he was referred to the
Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), where he was
pronounced dead,” he said.
OAU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Bamire, led a
condolence visit to the professor’s family, expressing shock and describing him
as a brilliant scholar.
He urged the family to take solace in his impactful life and
prayed for strength to bear the loss.
The late professor was a respected academic in the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in scholarship.
