Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and socio-political organization has distanced itself from the purported appointment of Oba Oladipo Olaitan as leader of the organization.
Reports earlier emerged that Oba Olaitan was appointed as
the new leader of Afenifere following the death of Pa Ayo Adebanjo.
The purported appointment was contained in a communique
issued by the group after its monthly general meeting that was recently held at
the lsanya Ogbo, in Ogun state, the country Pa Ayo Adebanjo.
According to reports, the meeting was attended by several
delegates from the six South West states and some North Central States,
including Kogi and Kwara.
However, when contacted, Afenifere’s National
Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi declared that there “is no vacuum in
the leadership of Afenifere”.
According to him, the only National leader recognized by the
Yoruba nation is Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, who is “not only hale and
hearty, but adroitly providing the requisite leadership to the glory of God”.
“In a situation where there is no vacuum, how do you talk of
filling a vacancy that does not exist?
“A king is not appointed when the incumbent is still very
much on the stool”, he said.
Ajayi further stated that Afenifere has a procedure for
appointing its leader, stressing that the “manner in which the one announced on
Tuesday was done ‘is alien to Afenifere tradition”
Afenifere spokesman added that the organization is still
mourning the demise of one of its highly respected leaders, Chief Ayo Adebanjo.
