The police command in Ebonyi says 10 persons were killed in an attack on the Amegu Nkalaha community in Ishielu LGA by some gunmen.
The attack, on Sunday morning, was believed to be a reprisal
by suspected herdsmen following the killing of their cows.
The assailants reportedly burnt down many houses in the
community and also injured many residents during the attack.
Joshua Ukandu, the police spokesperson in Ebonyi, told
TheCable that 10 bodies were recovered after the attack, adding that the gunmen
burnt houses selectively in the community.
Ukandu said normalcy has been restored to the area after the
command deployed its personnel to the community.
He added that the cause of the attack was yet to be
determined, noting that the command has commenced an investigation into the
incident.
“Presently, the area is calm; we got information that the
community was attacked, and immediately police operatives went to the
location,” Ukandu said.
“Upon arrival, we saw that houses were burnt selectively. We
also recovered 10 corpses from that area. At the moment our personnel are
there, and normalcy is returning to the area.
“I cannot confirm the cause of the attack. But we are
currently investigating to ascertain the cause of the attack.”
