The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old suspect, Usman Sagiru, of Sharifai Quarters, in connection with the fatal attack on vigilantes in the entourage of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II from Eid praying ground.

The incident occurred on Sunday, March 30, at approximately 12:40pm, as worshippers dispersed from the Eid praying ground.

According to the police, Sagiru and other suspects, who are currently at large, allegedly stabbed Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante member from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters.

Rabiu later succumbed to his injuries. Another vigilante member, Aminu Suleman from Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital.

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the attack and have invited Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for questioning.

The Kano State Police Command reaffirmed its strict ban on all forms of Durbar celebrations and warned that violators would face legal consequences.

It also reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward thuggery (Daba) and any acts that could disturb public order.

“We urge the public to remain calm and cooperate with the police as we work to ensure peace and security in Kano State,” the statement read.

SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, issued the statement on behalf of the Kano State Commissioner of Police.
