A struggling family in Kano has received donations after their plight was highlighted in Weekend Trus report. The Aliyu Murtala family, consisting of his wife Aisha, and their seven children, faced severe hardship as the holy month of Ramadan approached.
Following the publication of their story, a Good Samaritan, who requested anonymity, donated essential food supplies, including a bag of rice and a box of Irish potatoes, along with a cash gift of N60,000. The assistance provided immediate relief, enabling the family to have proper Sahur and Iftar meals.
Expressing gratitude, Murtala said, “I appreciate the donors and Weekend Trust for providing me a platform to share our struggles. This support came when we least expected it. I will also share part of it with our neighbors and other poor people because we empathize with them.”
Aisha, his wife, was equally relieved, noting that she and the children could now afford new clothes for the upcoming Sallah celebration, which they had previously anticipated with worry.
In addition to individual donors, Al-Ihsan Foundation, led by its Founder and CEO, Saada Bello Issa, also stepped in to support the family. The foundation provided food items, including rice, beans, spaghetti, sugar, vegetable oil, palm oil, and garri, along with a cash donation of N5,000.
Speaking on the family’s condition, Issa emphasised the broader issue of food insecurity in Nigeria, calling on stakeholders to address the systemic challenges.
