An Ekiti State High Court in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced Gabriel Emmanuel, 25, to life imprisonment for the kidnapping of a traditional ruler.
Emmanuel was convicted on three counts: murder, kidnapping, and demanding property with menace.
The prosecutor, Ibironke Odetola, said on September 13, 2020, Emmanuel and others at large murdered Jejelowo Fesobi David in Umesi Quarters, Igirigiri Road, Odo-Ado Ekiti.
Odetola also said on June 24, 2020, they kidnapped Oba Adeniran Benjamin Omotayo, the Eleda of Eda Ile Ekiti and on November 20, 2021, they demanded N4 million from Barrister Joseph Olorunfemi under threat.
The prosecutor presented evidence, including phone records and confessional statements, which Justice Adekunle Adeleye ruled were consistent with the prosecution’s case.
Finding the defendant guilty, the judge sentenced him to life imprisonment for kidnapping and three years for demanding property with menace.
