A mob reportedly descended heavily on a man, identified as Saleh, after he allegedly stole a passenger’s bag from a commercial car at Dei -Dei in Abuja.

A witness, Ibrahim Aliyu, said the incident happened at the weekend, near a pedestrian bridge at Dei -Dei.

He said the suspect alighted from the taxi and removed another person’s bag from the boot, claiming that it was his own.

He said as the driver was about to zoom off, the owner of the bag requested to check for his bag but could not find it.

He said the owner immediately raised an alarm and some Okada riders, who saw the suspect moving fast with the bag to climb the pedestrian bridge, apprehend him.

According to him, some of the Okada riders immediately pounced on him until some vigilantes came to rescue him.

The witness said the owner told the vigilantes that the bag was containing a POS machine, N243,000 cash and a laptop including a power bank and some clothes.

He said the man was able to recover all the items inside the bag, adding that he was lucky to have come to check for his bag before the driver left the scene.

A member of the vigilantes, identified as Danjuma, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect was rescued from the mob and handed over to security personnel in the area.

The police in the area confirmed the incident but declined further comments.
