A 30-year-old man, Mamuda Zakare, was on Tuesday docked at an Ojo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing one carton of jewellery worth N2.7 million.
The defendant is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on conduct likely to breach public peace and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 25, at the Alaba Rago market area of Ojo.
Uche alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace, by failing to waybill complete three cartons of jewellery belonging to one Mr Tasiu Aliu, the complainant.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant stole one carton of the jewellery valued at N2.7 million.
He said that the total value of the three cartons of the jewellery was N8.3 million.
The offence, Uche said, contravened the provisions of Section 168 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, L.K.J Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of one N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until March 14, for hearing. (NAN)
