A group of market women in Benin City has called for justice for Success Izekor, a housewife allegedly stabbed to death by her husband, Kelvin Izekor, at their home in Edo State.

During a protest on Monday, the women’s spokesperson, Odion Asemota, urged the government to ensure justice is served.

“Although Success’ husband is currently facing trial, his mother is boasting that he will be freed because the police were told he had mental issues,” Asemota alleged.

According to the protesters, the suspect went to his late wife’s store the day after the murder and took money from her Point of Sale (POS) business.

They further claimed that Kelvin attempted to secretly dispose of Success’ body on Sunday but was caught by neighbours.

The Edo State Police Command had earlier confirmed the incident in a statement by its spokesman, CSP Moses Yamu.

“The police received information that one Kelvin Izekor had killed his wife, Success Izekor, 38, and was about to be lynched by a mob.

“Operatives of the Aduwawa division swiftly responded and found the lifeless body of the woman in a pool of blood, with deep cuts on her head.

“It took serious efforts by the police operatives to pacify the mob, rescue the suspect, and take him into custody for investigation,” Yamu said.

The protesting women are demanding a fair trial and justice, emphasising that mental illness should not be used as an excuse to evade justice.
