The Mufti of Igbaja land in Kwara State, Alhaji AbdulRasheed Lawal, has reminded leaders that a strong nation is not built on tyranny or corruption but on justice, unity and service to the people.

The cleric, who was the guest speaker at this year’s Ramadan lecture organised by the Anwaru-L-Huda League of Nigeria in Abuja, emphasised that leadership is a trust and that the best of leaders is the one who loves his people and whom his people love.

The cleric, who was extolling the deeds of Prophet Muhammed, warned that society would not prosper when the poor are neglected, the weak are oppressed and the needy are forgotten.

He said, ‘’Brothers and sisters, look at the state of our communities today. Are we caring for the weak? Are we ensuring fairness in business and leadership? If we truly follow Islam, we cannot ignore those suffering around us. We must act!.’’

Earlier, the chairman of the Garki division of the group, Alh. Abdulhakeem Smith, enumerated some of the achievements of the League under his leadership, to include remodelling of the its mosque, the reorganization of the Anwaru-L-Huda Academy with the addition of new secondary school building and a two-storey mosque building in Kubwa, which he said, was currently 55 percent completed.

He also called for support for the ongoing projects.

The lecture with the theme, “From Faith to Action: How Islam Inspires Nation Building and Social Justice,” a powerful message on the role of Islam in nation-building and social justice, was attended by Muslim faithful across the country.
