A suspected hoodlum has reportedly hacked and inflicted serious injuries on a commercial cyclist identified as Rabiu at Kpokpolobi community in Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory and escaped with his motorcycle.

A resident of Kpokpolobi, Usman Ibrahim, said the incident happened around 9 pm on Sunday.

He said the hoodlum, who pretended to be passenger, asked the cyclist to pick him from low-cost housing to Kpokpolobi, adding that upon getting closer to the area, he pulled out a machete and stabbed the cyclist.

He said the cyclist fell on the ground and the hoodlum picked the bike and zoomed off towards the Abuja-Lokoja highway.

He said, “It was the screaming of the cyclist that attracted the attention of some residents as he started shouting thief, thief. But before people could realize what was happening, the hoodlum had already escaped with the bike.”

Ibrahim said some residents pursued the hoodlum towards the Abuja-Lokoja highway but could not get him, adding that the injured cyclist was taken to Ayaura primary health center.

The police in the area said the incident was not reported.
