The lingering cult war in Bayelsa has again claimed the life of a 30-year-old man, Darlington Watson, allegedly said to be a member of the Greenlander cult group.

He was reportedly dragged out from a moving tricycle and stone to death by a rival gang.

Our correspondent gathered that since early January, two rival cult groups in the state, the Bobous and Greenlanders, have been fighting for the control of the newly relocated transport terminal at Igbogene community, in the outskirts of Yenagoa.

It would be recalled that the clash, which has since escalated to other parts of Yenagoa, with several lives lost already, had early in February led to the killing of a woman trader at Swali market by stray bullet, before the recent killing.

Some witnesses told Daily Trust over the weekend that Darlington was dragged out from the moving tricycle, while some rival members hit him with sticks, machete and stones until he gave up.

According to a witness, “The man was in a tricycle (Keke) when suspected members of a rival cult group stopped the machine, dragged him out, and brutally assaulted him until he gave up.

“The incident occurred around 5:15pm on Wednesday, opposite one of the Pentecostal churches at Agudama-Epie in Yenagoa.”

It was gathered that before the police patrol team arrived at the scene, the family had already evacuated the corpse for burial, while the hoodlums had fled the scene.

The police spokesman in Bayelsa State, DSP Musa Muhammad, who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust over the weekend, said investigation had been intensified to apprehend the suspects.
