The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South East has elected new zonal executives, with Chief Ali Odefa re-emerging as zonal chairman.

The election took place on Wednesday during the party’s zonal congress at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu. Hon. James Ugwu was elected Zonal Secretary, Mrs. Regina Uchebo as Zonal Treasurer, and Hon. Cornelius Okey Ugwu as Zonal Organising Secretary. Others elected include Madubuike Okoro (Financial Secretary), Engr. Chigozie Igwe (Publicity Secretary), Barr. Dominic Nwankwo (Legal Adviser) and Mrs. Ifeyinwa Arodiogbo (Woman Leader).

Godswill Nwanoruo and Ezeanya Augustine were also elected as Zonal Youth Leader and Auditor, respectively, alongside six National Ex-officio and five Zonal Ex-officio members.

Speaking at the event, Enugu State governor and PDP leader in the South East, Peter Mbah, urged party members to prioritise unity.

“Election is never an end in itself, nor should its victory be seen as a personal triumph,” he said.

He emphasised that the PDP must set an example of good governance, adding, “Democracy abhors excuses. The people’s welfare must remain our priority.”

In his acceptance speech, Chief Odefa also called for unity, describing it as the key to PDP’s success against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he accused of policies that have caused hardship.
