President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday reiterated stronger synergy among security agencies to effectively tame crime in the country.
Tinubu spoke on Monday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers.
Represented by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, Tinubu noted that synergy among all security agencies remained vital to eliminating banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery and other forms of criminality.
Tinubu explained that his administration remained committed to supporting the police in their crucial role of keeping Nigeria safe and united.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, said the gathering served as a crucial platform for assessing the police’s administrative and operational strategies.
Egbetokun explained that it was also an avenue to exchange insights and realign policing objectives with the evolving global security landscape in Nigeria.
“Moving forward, all commands and formations have been mandated to implement a comprehensive action plan aimed at reducing crime rates by 50 per cent in 2025,” he said.
Douglas Kirocho, the Inspector General of the National Police Service of Kenya who doubles as president of the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL), advocated for inclusive policing and teamwork between the African states for their economic development.
