The Gombe State Police Command has apprehended two suspects over theft of 85 animals.
The suspects, Abdulkadir Tukur (35) and Ibrahim Saidu (20), were caught with 28 sheep and 57 goats, believed to have been stolen.
The arrest occurred on January 25, 2025, when Abubakar Umar, the village head of Tulmi in Akko Local Government Area of the state reported the case.
A member of the Tulmi Hunters Group, Yayaji Muhammad, had intercepted the suspects along the Tulmi cattle route. Upon questioning, the suspects failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the animals in their possession.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Usman, it was confirmed that officers from the Pindiga Divisional Police Headquarters took over the investigation.
The suspects later confessed to the crime. ‘’So far, 25 goats have been identified and reclaimed by their rightful owners. The victims include; Joseph Ahmadu (6 goats), Bello Sintali (4 goats), Godwin Iro (10 goats), and Zaraya Jepter (5 goats), all from Jurara, Kashere, and nearby villages in Akko and Billiri LGAs,” he said.
According to the statement, four other suspects Rabe Saidu, Hamisu Saidu, Bode Saidu, and Wada Saidu, all from Dawo village in Kwami LGA are still at large.
