Operatives of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service have commenced manhunt for a luxury bus driver and his conductor who fled and left behind five new automatic rifles and several thousands of cartridges in the Oshodi area of Lagos.
Customs Officers had trailed the yet-to-be identified driver and his conductor from Aba, the Abia state capital where the fire arms were loaded into the vehicle before it left for Lagos.
Comptroller Kola Oladeji, Controller in charge of the Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Zone A, made this disclosure on Tuesday while showcasing the ammunition in Ikeja.
Oladeji said officers of the unit, using cutting edge technology, got wind of the movement of some fire arms from the Eastern part of the country to Lagos.
He said after weeks of discrete investigations, got information that the arms were going to be concealed in a commercial luxury bus that would be coming into Lagos from Aba.
He said, “My officers were able to monitor the movement from Aba to Shagamu interchange where we thought the weapons would be offloaded. Interestingly, the driver proceeded to Lagos and on getting to Oshodi, they noticed that they were being tracked. They drove the bus into a side street where the driver and his conductor fled, leaving behind the items.
“My men did not fire a single shot at the fleeing driver and his conductor to avoid any casually. The bus has since been moved to Ikeja. We have commenced manhunt for the suspects.”
