The management of Nile University of Nigeria, on Monday, disclosed that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and two key industrial players bagged honorary degrees from the institution.

The two industrialists, according to the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Dilli Dogo, include the Chairman, AA Rano Group of Companies, Alh. Auwalu Rano and the Executive Vice-Chairman, Chrome Group of Companies, Sir Emeka Offor.

Speaking at a pre-convocation press briefing, the VC, Dogo, explained that 1,876 students will graduate formally from the institution on Thursday during the 12th convocation billed to be held in Abuja, among which are 857 postgraduate students.

Dogo told journalists that since when the institution joined Honoris United Universities in 2020, it had consistently achieved exponential year-on-year growth in student population.

The VC said between 2020 and 2024, Nile University’s student population more than quadrupled in size – from over 3,000 to more than 12,000 students.

“The enrollment quota has increased in the institution. I would like to inform you that we have even commenced the 2024/2025 academic session. We have built three huge academic complexes and we have expanded our hostels. There are other gigantic projects ongoing.

“Nile University remains committed to investing in infrastructural development to meet its present and future growth needs as reflected in the ongoing construction of a Senate building, and additional hostels, among other facilities,” Prof. Dogo said.

He further disclosed that the convocation lecture, titled: “Sustainable Energy Solutions: Pathways to Nigeria’s Industrial Development”, will be delivered by the Former Managing Director, Transmission Company of Nigeria, Dr. Usman Mohammed Gur.
