Eight passengers were reported killed while six others sustained injuries after a bus rammed into a trailer at Jere bridge, along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

A community leader from the area, who confirmed the incident over the phone to our reporter on Sunday said it happened on Saturday, around 9:47pm and involved a Sharon bus with registration number KGE 576 PZ.

He said the bus, which was coming from Zaria travelling to the East, overtook another vehicle through one-way and crashed into a moving trailer from behind.

He said the bus driver alongside seven passengers died on the spot, while six other passengers in the bus sustained injuries.

“In fact, I personally went to the scene with some of my people to support the FRSC officials and evacuated the dead and injured to the hospital,” he said.

An official of the FRSC, who was part of the rescue operation but preferred anonymity, confirmed the accident.

“In fact, we have to use an extricating machine to remove some of the trapped passengers, especially those seated in the front inside the bus,” he said.

He said the corpses had been deposited at Sabon-Wuse General Hospital’s morgue, while the injured were receiving treatment at the same hospital.
