Tesla has reportedly signed a lease deal to open its first showroom in Mumbai. Word comes by way of Reuters, which claims to have verified registration papers for the Tesla's inaugural Indian showroom.
Signed on February 16, 2025 for a five-year lease, the registration papers reveal that Tesla’s Mumbai showroom will be located in the Maker Maxity building in Bandra Kurla Complex, near Shivaji International Airport. The Tesla Mumbai showroom will measure at just over 4,000 square feet.
This information is consistent with a prior report from Reuters, which additionally alleged that Tesla has finalised another showroom location in Delhi’s Aerocity area. However, concrete details surrounding the Tesla Delhi showroom have yet to surface.
Although Tesla is set to commence Indian operations in the coming months, it’s still undetermined which of its global models the American electric car manufacturer plans to offer here. Initially, Tesla will sell imported EVs in India, which will be brought in via the CBU (completely built up) route.
While imported vehicles attract tariffs of 110 percent in India, the government plans to aid Tesla’s arrival in the country by introducing a new EV policy that will reduce the import duty to 15 percent. However, this altered policy will only be granted to carmakers who commit to local manufacturing in subsequent years, and Tesla may be eyeing Chakan, Maharashtra as a hub for the same.
