Volvo XC90 facelift PHEV for representation only

Volvo India is gearing up to introduce the facelifted XC90 SUV next month. First unveiled in 2024, the updated XC90 received design and technology updates but retained its platform and powertrain choices.

  1. Its larger 11.2-inch touchscreen uses Google software
  2. Rivals include Mercedes GLE, BMW X5 and Audi Q7

Volvo XC90 facelift: design changes

Its exterior looks inspired by the Volvo EX90 and other stablemates. Notable mentions include a redesigned grille with diagonal slats, vertical air vents on the bumper’s either side, refreshed ‘Thor’ hammer headlights and a new alloy wheel design (global spec: 20-22 inches).

Volvo XC90 facelift: interior, features

A larger 11.2-inch touchscreen replaces the 9-inch unit

The cabin looks mostly familiar; however, EX90-inspired bits are also carried over here. A larger 11.2-inch touchscreen (9-inch currently) is one up on resolution and runs on the Google-based software as the EX90, allowing for over-the-air (OTA) updates.

Volvo claims to have used recycled materials inside and worked on the overall ride comfort, too. It remains to be seen if the Swedish car brand will introduce a five- or six-seat variant over the seven-seat configuration we already have.

Volvo XC90 facelift: engine, performance

The XC90 on sale has a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine with a mild hybrid system. This setup produces 250hp and 360Nm, reaching the 100kph mark in 7.7 seconds. Being an AWD vehicle, the 8-speed automatic gearbox sends power to all four wheels. We expect the facelift to continue with this engine and transmission combination. An XC90 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant could also be on the cards, but Volvo is yet to comment on this.

Volvo XC90 facelift: expected price, rivals in India

As of now, only the XC90 B5 AWD variant is sold here, and it has a price of Rs 1.01 crore. It will depend entirely on the engine line-up and seating configuration headed to India, making for a likely increase north of Rs 10 lakh. It’ll continue to rival the likes of the BMW X5 (Rs 97.80 lakh onwards), Mercedes GLE (Rs 99 lakh), and Audi Q7 (Rs 88.70 lakh onwards) in India.
