Toyota Camry Sprint differences explained

At the recent launch of the new Toyota Camry, the carmaker also introduced a Sprint Edition for the hybrid sedan. The Camry Sprint gets a couple of cosmetic additions, making it look sportier than the regular model. While the prices for the Sprint Edition have not been released yet, it will command a slight premium over the regular Camry, which is available in a single Elegance trim and priced at Rs 48 lakh (ex-showroom). The accessory package can be opted for from an authorised Toyota dealership.

The lower section of the front bumper has a thin chrome strip from end to end, and the edges of the bumper itself get a black finish, replacing the body-coloured one seen on the standard Camry. Most elements that are finished in chrome on the regular Camry now get a gloss black finish, such as the the 18-inch alloy wheels, the covers for the ORVMs, and the trim around the windows. In a similar fashion, there's a new split, and black-finished spoiler on the boot, and the rear bumper gets a faux diffuser element, which adds to the Sprint's more aggressive look.

On the inside, apart from ambient lighting, the Camry Sprint's cabin layout and features list are identical to the standard model.

Toyota Camry Sprint powertrain 

Under the hood, the Sprint Edition sees no changes and continues to be be powered by the 2.5-litre four-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine, which generates 187hp, while the torque output is 221Nm. Compared to the previous model, the combined power output sees an increment to 230hp, with Toyota claiming a 0-100kph time of 7.2 seconds for the new Camry. Transmission duties are handled by an eCVT unit, just like other hybrids in the carmaker’s stable.

Toyota Camry Sprint rivals

As we've mentioned above, prices for the Camry Sprint have not been revealed by Toyota as it is a dealer-level fitment. Like its standard counterpart, which is priced at Rs 48 lakh, this sportier Camry will take on the Rs 54 lakh Skoda Superb, its main competitor. The hybrid sedan can also be seen as an alternative to the likes of the Audi A4, Mercedes C-Class and BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine, which are priced from Rs 46.02 lakh, Rs 59.40 lakh and Rs 60.60 lakh, respectively. .
