Vehicle safety is slowly yet steadily becoming a major aspect to consider while purchasing a new car or SUV, and keeping this in mind, manufacturers have also introduced more safety features in recent years. Here’s a list of the most affordable cars and SUVs in India that offer six airbags, either on some variants or as standard across the range.

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios 

Starting price: Rs 5.92 lakh

With a starting price of Rs 5.92 lakh, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is the most affordable car in India to be offered with six airbags. The Korean carmaker had made six airbags standard across all variants last October.

Nissan Magnite

Starting price: Rs 5.99 lakh

At Rs 5.99 lakh, the Nissan Magnite is the most affordable SUV on this list. It recently received a facelift and boasts six airbags, three-point seat belts for all passengers, ISOFIX anchors, traction control, TPMS and hill-start assist as standard equipment. It continues to be powered by two 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engines in naturally aspirated (B4D) and turbocharged (HRA0) forms.

Hyundai Exter

Starting price: Rs 6.13 lakh

The Hyundai Exter starts at Rs 6.13 lakh and is the most affordable SUV in India with six airbags, which is standard across all trims. Hyundai offers the SUV with an 83hp, 114Nm, 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine paired to either a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT. A factory-fit CNG kit is also on offer with the Exter.

Hyundai Aura

Starting price: Rs 6.49 lakh

Just like the other Hyundais on this list, the Aura also gets six airbags as standard. It draws power from the same 1.2-litre petrol engine as the Exter, i20 and Grand i10 Nios, available with a 5-speed MT and an optional 5-speed AMT. The Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze and Tata Tigor rival also gets a CNG option.

Maruti Suzuki Swift 

Starting price: Rs 6.49 lakh

The new fourth-gen Maruti Swift gets six airbags as standard across its range. It gets a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Z series engine that boasts a class-leading efficiency of up to 25.75kpl. ISOFIX anchors, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD and ESC are the other standard safety features.

Maruti Dzire

Starting price: Rs 6.79 lakh

The new Dzire impressed with a segment-first 5-star safety rating in the GNCAP crash tests, thereby becoming the first Maruti model to secure the top score. For reference, the previous third-generation Dzire was awarded 2 stars by GNCAAP. As standard, the Dzire gets six airbags, three-point seatbelts for all occupants, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, ESP and Hill Hold Assist.

Hyundai i20 

Starting price: Rs 7.04 lakh

Hyundai's premium hatchback, the i20, gets six airbags as standard. It's offered with a sole 83hp, 115Nm, 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or an optional CVT.

Mahindra XUV 3XO

Starting price: Rs 7.49 lakh

The Mahindra XUV 3XO got six airbags as standard when it was rebranded from XUV300. Pricing starts from Rs 7.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.99 lakh. It is available with a 111hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine; a 131hp, 1.2-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol unit; and a 117hp, 1.5-litre diesel option.

Skoda Kylaq

Starting price: Rs 7.89 lakh

Being a compact SUV, the Kylaq is the most affordable Skoda to come equipped with six airbags as standard. It also gets ESC, traction control, three-point seat belts and adjustable head restraints for all seats and ISOFIX child seat mounts for the rear seats on all its trims. Notably, the Kylaq is built on the same MQB-A0-IN platform as the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia, which received 5-star ratings from Global NCAP.

Hyundai Venue 

Starting price: Rs 7.94 lakh

The Hyundai Venue occupies the ninth spot on this list and gets six airbags as standard across all trims. The compact SUV gets three engine options: a 1.2-litre petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel.

Honda Amaze

Starting price: Rs 7.99 lakh

Apart from standard six airbags, the most notable safety addition to the new Honda Amaze is a segment-first Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite on the top trim. The camera-based ADAS feature pack includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking and blind-spot monitor, among others. 

Kia Sonet 

Starting price: Rs 7.99 lakh

Much like its cousin, the Hyundai Venue, the Kia Sonet also offers six airbags across all variants. Prices range between Rs 7.99 lakh-15.75 lakh. Other standard safety features on the Sonet include ESC, VSM, hill-start assist control, emergency stop signal, a TPMS and more.

Citroen Basalt

Starting price: Rs 7.99 lakh

The Citroen Basalt coupe SUV offers six airbags, ESP, hill-hold assist and a tyre pressure monitor in the entire lineup. Rivalling the Tata Curvv, Basalt gets two petrol powertrains: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 1.2-litre turbo mill that can be had with both manual and automatic transmissions.

Tata Nexon 

Starting price: Rs 7.99 lakh

The Tata Nexon is yet another compact SUV with six airbags as standard. The XUV 3XO, Venue, Sonet and Brezza rival is priced from Rs 7.99 lakh, and is available with 1.2-litre turbo-petrol (120hp) and 1.5-litre diesel (115hp) engine options.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno

Starting price: Rs 8.43 lakh

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno gets dual-front airbags as standard, with six airbags available from the Zeta variant onwards. Pricing for the Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz rival ranges from Rs 8.43 lakh-9.88 lakh. The premium hatch gets a 1.2-litre engine making 90hp and 113Nm.
