Skoda’s smallest SUV, the Kylaq, has gathered 10,000 bookings since bookings opened on December 2. Additionally, Skoda India has also announced that it has stopped accepting bookings for the entry-level Kylaq Classic variant as it's sold out. Prices for the Kylaq range between Rs 7.89 lakh and Rs 14.40 lakh (ex-showroom).
In an earlier interaction with Autocar India, Petr Janeba, Skoda India brand director had said, “The Kylaq Classic is an entry version, but it's not something we only advertise, but will also deliver."
The brand had earlier conveyed that the initial batch will comprise of 33,000 units and will be delivered by next May. Bookings for the sold-out variants will reopen post the first batch of deliveries. Janeba had also said that Skoda can adjust production numbers for variants according to customer demand.
The Kylaq Classic can only be had with a 6-speed manual gearbox. It comes decently equipped with features like LED headlamps, 16-inch steel wheels, six airbags, adjustable headrests, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, powered wing mirrors, manual AC, a front centre armrest, and two tweeters, among others. This variant does miss out on a touchscreen infotainment system, which is something even its rivals miss out on.
Commenting on the Kylaq Classic’s equipment list, Janeba had said, “The only thing missing is an infotainment system. We always prefer delivering a full car, but it was important for the pricing. It, however, has all the connections, antennas and speakers, so customers can fit their desired aftermarket screens or even a Skoda system as an accessory. This is the only thing which a customer needs to get over the full car that we are delivering.”
Skoda India has also confirmed that the Kylaq will be in most showrooms from January 27, 2025, which is the same day it plans to start deliveries. Customer test drives are expected to commence around the same time period. Skoda will also display the Kylaq at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Show (Auto Expo 2025) at New Delhi, which starts on January 17.
The Kylaq comes in four variants. After the Classic comes the Signature variant priced at Rs 9.59 lakh for the manual and Rs 10.59 lakh for the automatic. The Signature Plus starts at Rs 11.40 lakh going up to Rs 12.40 lakh for the automatic. The top-spec Kylaq Prestige is priced between Rs 13.35 lakh and Rs 14.40 lakh.
The Kylaq comes with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that is already seen in other Skoda-VW models. It churns out 115hp and 178Nm, and comes with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Seven exterior paint shades are on offer on the Kylaq: Tornado Red, Brilliant Silver, Candy White, Carbon Steel, Lava Blue, Deep Black and Olive Gold.
Skoda has announced that the first 33,333 customers will get a special maintenance package, which will bring the running cost down to Rs 0.24/km. The company is also providing a 3 year/1,00,000km warranty as standard. The Kylaq's key rivals include the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and the Tata Nexon.
