Honda recently launched the all-new Amaze with prices ranging between Rs 8.00 lakh and Rs 10.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The new Amaze remains unchanged under the hood, carrying over the same 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 90hp and 110Nm. Honda claims a fuel efficiency of 18.65kpl for the manual variant, while the CVT automatic returns 19.46kpl.

Incidentally, the automatic variant is now 1.16kpl more efficient than its predecessor, with the previous-gen Amaze having a claimed fuel efficiency of 18.3kpl with the CVT gearbox. The manual versions do not see any change.

Compared to its rivals, however, the new Amaze is the least efficient of the lot. The Maruti Dzire continues to be the most fuel-efficient compact sedan by a fair margin with 24.79kpl for the manual and 25.71kpl for the automatic. The Tata Tigor and Hyundai Aura, too, are marginally more efficient than the Amaze. One point is distinction, however, is that all rivals use an AMT for the auto gearbox option, while the Amaze uses a smoother and more sophisticated CVT.
Notably, the Amaze is also the only compact sedan that does not come with a factory-fitted CNG powertrain. So, if you’re looking for an even more fuel-efficient vehicle, you’ll have to choose between the Dzire, Aura or Tigor. For reference, the Dzire has a claimed economy of 33.73km/kg with CNG, while the Aura and Tigor return 28.4km/kg and 26.49km/kg, respectively.
