Jamshedpur: Tata Steel has implemented a landmark change in its operations on 17 december by entrusting the entire functioning of its iron ore mine in Noamundi, Jharkhand, to women. This initiative is regarded as the first of its kind in the country.

Managing a mine, traditionally considered labor-intensive, is seen as a challenging task. The company stated that the decision was driven by the vision of preparing women to be on par with men in all spheres.

The women workforce will handle all operations in the mine, including operating earth-moving vehicles, excavating land using heavy machinery, transporting materials, and conducting blasting activities. Tasks that were conventionally performed by men are now being entirely managed by women.
