A 75-year-old man was killed in an elephant attack in Adibailu village, Kenchammana Hoskote on Tuesday, January 21 evening.

The victim identified as Puttayya had gone to Magge village on Tuesday evening to purchase groceries. While returning home to Adibailu via the Kanive Basavanahalli route on foot, he encountered a wild elephant.

In a bid to escape, Puttayya ran into a coffee plantation, but the elephant attacked him, resulting in his death on the spot.

When Puttayya did not return home, his family launched a search and later discovered his lifeless body in the coffee plantation.

The incident caused panic among the residents of Adibailu and surrounding villages, with locals gathering at the scene in large numbers. Upon receiving the information, officials from the Alur forest division and police arrived at the spot to investigate and initiated legal procedures.

The recurring attacks by wild elephants have left the villagers of Alur taluk in fear. Residents expressed their anger over the failure of the forest department to address the issue effectively.
