The Central Division Women’s Police Station has arrested two individuals accused of gang-raping a woman after luring her to a godown in the City Market area under the pretext of showing her way to a bus stop.

The arrested individuals are Ganesh (23) and Saravanan (35) from K.R. Market.

On January 19, around 11:30 PM, the duo allegedly gang-raped a 37-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu near Godown Street in K.R. Market. They also snatched Rs 650 in cash, a gold chain, other jewelry, and her mobile phone before fleeing. Following a complaint lodged by the victim, the police registered a case and apprehended the suspects.

Criminal History

The accused, who have been known for similar activities for several years, were working as daily wage labourers in the City Market area. During the day, they worked as laborers, and at night, they would sleep in vacant spaces in K.R. Market, the police revealed.

Police said the victim, a native of Sathyamangalam in Tamil Nadu, is married and had recently arrived in the city following a dispute with her husband. On Sunday night, she was at City Market, waiting for a bus to her brother’s house in Yelahanka.

The accused approached her when she asked them about buses to Yelahanka. They claimed they would guide her and took her to Godown Street near K.R. Market, where they allegedly gang-raped her. They then fled with her gold chain, silver ornaments, mobile phone, and cash, police added.

Police Investigation and Arrest

The victim, in trauma, sought help from locals and filed a complaint at the women’s police station. The police took her to a hospital for a medical examination, which reportedly confirmed the sexual assault.

Immediately after registering the case, the police began their investigation. They examined CCTV footage from the incident site and nearby areas, which helped them track down and arrest the two accused, the police said.
