Ramanagara: A woman reportedly ended her life in Ramanagaradue allegedly due to harassment by microfinance company staff.

Yashodamma, a resident of Thimmayyanadoddi village, had reportedly borrowed approximately Rs 4.60 lakh from 7 microfinance companies. The interest compounded over time, leaving her unable to repay the debt.

In a complaint lodged with the Ramanagara Rural Police Station, Yashodamma’s son Kumar alleged that the harassment by the microfinance staff drove his mother to take the extreme step.

Following the incident, cases have been registered against seven microfinance companies under charges of abetment to suicide and other relevant sections.

Police sources revealed that the staff of the implicated microfinance companies have gone into hiding. Investigations are underway, with some individuals being summoned for questioning.
