Nanjangud: Days after miscreants slashed the udders of three cows in Chamarajpet, Bengaluru, another inhumane act has surfaced in Nanjangud, where a calf’s tail was cut off with a sharp weapon.
On Thursday morning, a devotee noticed the calf lying in a pool of blood with its tail half-severed in front of the government school in Halladakeri locality. He immediately contacted a veterinarian who reached the spot and administered first aid to the calf.
Due to the extent of the injury, the remaining portion of the tail was completely removed based on the doctor’s advice. The calf was dehydrated owing to the blood loss and treatment was continued with glucose and medication.
Following the incident, a group of devotees from the Srikanteshwara temple gathered at the site to protest against the government and temple administration.
The devotees said that there has been a custom of dedicating cows to Srikanteshwara Swamy which were branded with a lingam. These cows are now roaming around Nanjangud like stray cattle due to lack of care, making them targets for miscreants. They alleged that the branding of the cows has also been stopped.
Two teams have been formed under the leadership of DySP Raghu to investigate the incident. The police have assured swift action, and arrests will be made soon, according to Superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhan.
