Manipal: Rev John Benedict Amanna (65), who had served for several decades as Presbyter in charge the Church of South India (CSI), Karnataka Southern Diocese, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, after a brief illness.

Born with a strong inclination towards service, Rev Amanna began his theological training early in life. He was ordained in 1985 and took charge as Presbyter in 1989. Over the years, he served in various churches, including the Marol congregation in Mumbai, and others at Padur, Anandapur, Chikkamagaluru, Koppa, Uchila, Pangala Gudde, and Manipal.

During his tenure, Rev Amanna became beloved among the community for his wisdom, compassion, and guidance. He spearheaded the construction of a beautiful church in Koppa and contributed significantly to the development of the church at Kuthyaru.

Rev Amanna retired recently after decades of service. His demise has left the Protestant community grieving. Leaders, including the Karnataka Southern Diocese President, fellow presbyters, prominent figures, and public representatives, have expressed their condolences.
