Udupi: The grand Gita Utsav, part of the major project of the Koti Geeta Lekhana Yajna, was inaugurated on Wednesday, Novembeer 20 at the Sri Krishna Mutt in Udupi by His Holiness Shankar Vijayendra Saraswati Swamiji of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham.

Before the event, the Seer offered prayers at the Sri Chandramoulishwara, Sri Ananteshwara, and Sri Krishna—the main deity shrines of the Sri Krishna Matha. Accompanied by a grand procession from the Sanskrit College, with Vedic chants, musical instruments, and traditional ceremonial groups, the Kanchi Shankaracharya was warmly welcomed by the representatives of Puttige Mutt with full honors.

At Sri Krishna Mutt, Paryaya Puttige Matha’s Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji and Junior Puttige Mutt Swamiji, Sri Sushreendra Tirtha Swamiji, received the Kanchi Acharya with great reverence. They guided him for darshan of Lord Krishna, the presiding deity. A traditional welcome ceremony was held at Chandrashala, where the Kanchi Acharya was honored by the Paryaya Matha.

Following this, the Kanchi Swamiji visited the Gita Mandir, where Puttige Swamiji explained the temple’s unique features. In the vibrant procession marking the start of the Gita Utsav, both the Kanchi and Puttige Swamijis walked in a chariot procession and entered the Rajangana.

The Gita Utsav, which will be held from November 21 to December 29, was officially inaugurated by the Kanchi Acharya at Rajangana in a grand ceremony.
