Dr. S.G. Sarvotham Prabhu, a distinguished cardiologist and retired Professor and Head of the Department of Cardiology at KMC Manipal, passed away at the age of 84. Known for his remarkable contributions, Dr. Prabhu leaves behind a legacy of excellence, compassion, and dedication to the field of cardiology.

One of the earliest to be trained in Cardiology from the prestigious CMC Vellore in 1970, Dr. Prabhu was instrumental in establishing the Department of Cardiology and the DM Cardiology program at KMC Manipal.

In recognition of his pioneering contributions, he was honored with the Karnataka Governor’s Award in the 1980s. A revered teacher and mentor, he earned the title of a “teacher of teachers,” shaping the careers of numerous cardiologists who carry forward his legacy.

Dr. Prabhu is survived by his daughters, Suman Prabhu and Dr. Sowmini P. Kamath; sons-in-law, Dr. Ravindra Prabhu and Dr. Padmanabh Kamath; and five grandchildren.
