Ullal: A man was attacked with an iron rod and nearly stabbed for allegedly informing the police about illegal sand mining activities. The attack occurred near the Someshwara Town Municipality office on Monday (November 4).

The victim, Kishore M. Uchila (53), a resident of Fishery Road in Someshwara Uchila and a member of the Someshwara Somanath Temple management committee, was reportedly assaulted by Sunil Poojary, who is involved in illegal sand mining in the Uchila Battappady area. Kishore was admitted to a local private hospital following the assault.

According to the complainant, the incident unfolded when Kishore was returning home on a scooter with his friend Pushparaj after having tea at a restaurant in Someshwara. Near the Someshwara Municipality office, Sunil Poojary blocked their way and threatened Kishore, accusing him of informing the police about the sand mining operations. He reportedly attacked Kishore on the shoulder and waist with an iron rod and attempted to stab him. Kishore narrowly escaped when Pushparaj quickly sped the scooter away from the scene, according to the complaint lodged by Kishore.

It is alleged that a previous raid conducted by the CCB police in the Uchila Battappady area, where a large amount of illegally mined sand was seized, to be the cause of the attack. Sunil Poojary had been accused in that case as well.

A case has been registered against Sunil Poojary at the Ullal Police Station, and investigations are underway.
