Bengaluru: After the recent controversy involving actor Darshan receiving special treatment at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, the police have intensified their vigilance. Authorities have now arrested a remand prisoner involved in smuggling mobile phones into the prison.

Vijay, a resident of Kolar’s KGF and a murder accused currently lodged at the Parappana Agrahara jail, was taken into custody by the Southeastern Division police. He had reportedly been purchasing smartphones from outside the prison with the help of jail staff and selling them to other inmates at inflated prices.

Following the discovery of concrete evidence that Vijay had been supplying mobile phones to fellow inmates, he was arrested. This has raised concerns about how easily inmates were obtaining mobile phones inside the jail.

In addition to Vijay, the police are continuing their investigation into other suspects, including Wilson Garden residents Nag alias Nagaraj and Velu, who are currently in police custody.

Investigators are looking into the possibility that Vijay was running the mobile smuggling operation with the cooperation of jail officials and whether notorious rowdy-sheeters were paying large sums of money to purchase phones from him.

Background of the Case:
The incident came to light after the Central Crime Branch (CCB) conducted a raid on the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail on September 15, during which they seized 26 mobile phones. Both Nag and Velu were found in possession of mobile phones. Further investigation revealed Vijay’s involvement in supplying these phones. Following the discovery of special privileges provided to actor Darshan and his associates, they were transferred to other prisons to prevent any further misconduct.
