Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Rangpanchami celebrations at Indore's Rajwada turned chaotic after a group of miscreants took advantage of the massive crowd to snatch chains, steal shoes and slippers, and harass women present in the Gair.
After receiving information, the MG Road police and Crime Branch acted swiftly, detaining around 40 individuals involved in the unlawful activities.
Shoes thrown amidst celebration, women harassed
Indore's Gair is a cultural tradition of playing colour which has always been celebrated in high spirits. But, this time the joyful celebration turned into a scene of turmoil when some festival-goers began throwing shoes and slippers at each other instead of playing with colors.
Miscreants took advantage of the dense crowd to harass women and young girls, creating panic.
Several cases of chain-snatching and pickpocketing were also reported.
A life lost in Gair procession
Earlier in the day, the Gair procession turned fatal when a youth came under a water tanker’s tire, resulting to his death and causing shockwaves across the city. Following this heartbreaking accident, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav canceled his scheduled visit to the event, expressing condolences to the bereaved family.
Police takes swift action
The MG Road police station and Crime Branch teams acted immediately to control the rising chaos in the celebration by apprehending 40 miscreants who were causing trouble in the crowd.
They were taken to MG Road police station, where legal action is being initiated.
