Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav, on Wednesday, canceled his visit to Indore’s famous ‘Gair’ procession after tragic death of a person was reported.

According to information, a young man lost his life after being run over by a tractor during the Gair procession at Rajwada.

Upon receiving the news, CM Yadav decided not to attend the event as a mark of respect for the deceased.

CM shared the information through his official X handle. He stated, "As per the pre-scheduled plan, I had come to participate in Indore’s world-famous Gair festival on the occasion of Rang Panchami....However, a tragic incident occurred during the celebration. A man was injured after being hit by a tractor and sadly passed away during treatment. Expressing deep condolences over this unfortunate accident, I have decided to cancel my participation in the Rang Panchami celebrations in Indore."

CM announces financial assistance

Expressing his condolences, the Chief Minister said, "A family's son has been lost. My heartfelt condolences are with them." 

He also announced financial assistance of ₹4 lakh from the administration to support the bereaved family.

Over 5 lakh people participated in Gair

According to Collector Ashish Singh, over 5 lakh people have already participated in the Gair procession. He emphasized that for Indore’s Gair to secure a place in UNESCO’s heritage list, it must be conducted with dignity, ensure women's participation, and maintain safety.

However, a tragic incident occurred during the procession at Rajwada when a man was run over by a tractor, leading to his immediate death. 

Authorities are struggling to identify the victim, as he had only ₹150 in his pocket and no mobile phone or ID card.

However, an investigation has been initiated regarding the matter.
