Mumbai: Amid ruckus over the violence that unfolded in Nagpur, the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition in Maharashtra came face to face in the assembly premises on Tuesday morning with MLAs from both sides seen raising slogans against each other.

The proceedings of the House were adjourned twice. The opposition said that the situation in Maharashtra was worsening due to statements made by some ministers in the Mahayuti government. However, MLAs from the ruling alliance accused some people of glorifying Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.

In the Legislative Council, Opposition Leader Ambadas Danve raised an adjournment motion, stating that the incident in Nagpur occurred due to police negligence. He claimed the violence was a result of religious discord.

“This government has made efforts for the last one month to stoke Hindu-Muslim violence in the state. Such violence would disrupt the daily life of Hindus as well as Muslims, but (the government) wants to reap political benefits out of it. The BJP and its associated organisations are trying to disrupt the harmony in the state,” he alleged.

Congress leader Nana Patole alleged that the government had a role in these incidents. He asserted that ministers in the government are inciting the public.

While speaking to the media, he indirectly targeted Minister Nitesh Rane, accusing him of fueling tensions. Patole said, “If the chief minister and home minister are calling this incident pre-planned, it clearly indicates the failure of the government and the police.”

Senior Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar, in a scathing attack against BJP leader T Raja Singh, called for a ban against him in Maharashtra, accusing him of 'inciting violence.' He also accused the Mahayuti government of promoting such people.

“Such worthless people should be shown their place. It is the government that is promoting such people,” he said. BJP group leader Pravin Darekar suggested that this was part of a larger conspiracy and demanded an investigation.

Shiv Sena MLA Manisha Kayande condemned the violence and demanded action against those spreading rumours. “We condemn the Nagpur violence. The way stones were pelted, and violence erupted on a large scale, it could not have happened without pre-planning,” Kayande said.

BJP MLA Pravin Datke reached the violence-hit area of Hansapuri this morning and asserted that violence seemed to be 'pre-planned'. He said that the vandalisation of shops and stalls and the destruction of cameras were indicative of the same.

“If there were two shops each of Muslims and Hindus, only the latter was affected. There's a (roadside) stall that belongs to a Muslim. Nothing happened to it. However, another stall that belonged to an elderly lady was damaged. The cameras were destroyed. It indicates that this thing was planned,” Datke said.
