Chandigarh: Punjab police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a cross-border drug cartel with the arrest of a person and recovered 8.08 kg heroin and one .30 bore pistol along with five cartridges from his possession.
Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, said that the arrested accused has been identified as Dharminder Singh alias Sonu, a resident of Amritsar. Apart from recovering heroin and a weapon, police teams have impounded his Hyundai Creta car, which the accused was using to deliver the consignments.

DGP Yadav said that the accused was in touch with cross-border drug smugglers, who were using Ajnala sector to drop the drug consignments using drones from across the border.
Sharing operation details, Commissioner of Police (CP), Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, said that acting on reliable inputs, police teams apprehended the accused near Mental Hospital in Amritsar, when he was waiting for someone to deliver the consignment.
The CP said that police teams have also identified his accomplice involved in the drug smuggling, while, probe is on to identify the person, who was supposed to receive the consignment.
2 HELD WITH 10 PISTOLS, 2 KG HEROIN
Meanwhile, in another cache, the Punjab police nabbed three persons, including two women, and recovered 10 pistols and two kg 2 KG heroin from near village Bharopal in Amritsar.
Acting on a tip-off, the police teams conducted raids at two houses in the village and recovered 10 pistols of 30 calibre and 1 kg of heroin from the residence of Rajbir Kaur and another 1 kg heroin from the residence of Kuljit Kaur and their accomplice, identified as Dharampreet Singh, police said and added that three other accomplices managed to flee the spot.
