Mumbai: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police has accelerated its probe into the multi-crore Mithi River desilting scam. According to reliable sources, BJP leader Prasad Lad is likely to record his statement this week. Lad is the main complainant in the case and was the first to raise concerns about the alleged financial irregularities in the project.

As per sources, the EOW will summon Lad this week to record his statement and obtain crucial documents related to the scam. The agency aims to strengthen its investigation by verifying facts and gathering all necessary evidence related to the tenders, contracts, and payments involved in the desilting project.

Statements of 12 BMC Officials Already Recorded:
On the other hand, the EOW continues to record statements of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials linked to the project. So far, 12 BMC officials, primarily engineers, have been questioned, with more statements expected in the coming days.

The EOW has also collected tender documents and contracts related to the desilting project. A senior EOW official confirmed that apart from gathering statements, the team is compiling documentary evidence to support the investigation.

The EOW investigation team has visited several locations along the 17-km stretch of the Mithi River where the desilting work was carried out. During these inspections, officials have reportedly found crucial evidence related to discrepancies in the execution of the project. With multiple angles being examined, the investigation is expected to take further decisive steps soon. The financial mismanagement and alleged corruption in the project remain the central focus of the probe.
