A serving Army Colonel was brutally beaten by 6-7 @PatialaPolice officers. Even after clear CCTV footage & eyewitness statements, the police are trying to brush aside the case instead of taking action against the guilty officers named by theā¦ pic.twitter.com/4SyrLXNNeB
Meanwhile, the Army officer's son alleged that the police personnel beat them for almost 45 minutes. "They asked us to remove our car, and when my father objected to their language, one of the officers punched him. When I tried to step in, they attacked me as well. They beat us with sticks, rods and baseball bats. My father and I fainted, and when we woke up, they were still beating us. We were assaulted for at least 45 minutes," Col Bath's son said.
The police have reportedly registered an FIR against unidentified people. Col Bath's wife alleged that the Punjab Police is trying to shield their officers.
As per a report by Tribune, the police personnel were on their way to the hospital after an encounter with kidnappers in which a 7-year-old child was rescued. The kidnapper was shot dead. However, one of the police personnel, who was accused by the Army officer, claimed that it was Col Bath who started the fight first.
Senior Army officials visited the hospital where the Colonel and his son are undergoing treatment.
