Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan and Hollywood star Gillian Anderson recently came together to discuss their perspectives on personal boundaries, industry norms, and the portrayal of female desire on screen. Gillian, known for her bold and complex roles on screen, also addressed Kareena's well-known stance on not doing intimate scenes or sex scenes in films.
During an interaction for The Dirty Magazine, Gillian asked, "I know that you’ve said in the past that you wouldn’t be interested in doing a sex scene... I feel differently. I mean, I feel like there’s a lot of things that I wouldn’t be comfortable with, but I’m so used to it being a given that it’s something that, you know, actresses are expected in a way to be okay with if the role calls for it. So I’m wondering, what’s the boundary that you set?"
Kapoor Khan, who has consistently maintained her reservations on such scenes, provided a thoughtful response.
She said, "I personally feel like it’s (sex) not important to take a story forward. It’s not something that I believe is required, in a form of a story, to show that. I might not be comfortable doing that on screen. I never have done it. And I think it’s just the way we look at the whole idea, you know. We don’t look at your sexuality or sex as a human experience, you know. We have to start looking at and respecting that a lot more before we put it on screen."
Kapoor also opened up about the cultural differences in the portrayal of female desire between the West and India.
“Where I’m coming from is the fact that we’re still not as open as having the narrative the way it is out there for you guys and the way you can feel it so openly. So while female desire has been openly tackled in the West, you know, it’s always been pretty open there,” she added.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Kareena was last seen in Rohit Shetty's Singham Again. She essayed the role of Ajay Devgn's wife, Avni Kamat Singham, in the film.
She recently made headlines after videos of her performance at IIFA 2025 went viral. She paid a tribute to her grandfather, legendary actor Raj Kapoor, and performed on his songs like Pyaar Hua Ikraar Hua and Mera Joota Hai Japani.
