India’s glorious victory in the Champions Trophy 2025

The final match was a nerve-wracking encounter, with India successfully chasing down the target set by New Zealand. This marks India’s second outright Champions Trophy win (third overall, including the shared title with Sri Lanka in 2002) and reinforces their dominance in world cricket, having also lifted the 2024 T20 World Cup just a year prior.

Why did Team India wear white blazers?

During the celebratory moments of the Champions Trophy 2025 victory, Team India donned special white jackets before lifting the trophy. This tradition, introduced by the ICC, is a way to honour the champions of the event with distinguished and elegant attire.

"The white jacket is a badge of honour adorned by champions. It embodies the relentless pursuit of tactical brilliance and a legacy that inspires generations. Winning the white jacket signifies the journey of putting it all on the line for victory," stated the ICC.

The concept of the white blazer was first introduced in 2009 by the ICC to add a sense of exclusivity to the winning team’s celebration. Designed by Mumbai-based fashion designer Babita M, the jacket is made from premium Italian wool and features intricate details that symbolise excellence in cricket.

"The jacket is white in colour with gold braiding designed to make it appear striking and give the jacket a slight edge. The specially commissioned logo has been carefully embroidered in the fabric colour with a golden contour so as to let it attract the focal attention," the ICC elaborated on the design philosophy.

Cricket legend Wasim Akram, who unveiled the white jackets for the 2025 edition, hosted by Pakistan and the UAE, emphasized their significance in the cricketing world.

"The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy represents the best of the best, and the unveiling of the white jacket, which symbolizes greatness, will now build the excitement of the event across the global cricket community. Next month’s Champions Trophy will see the strongest team win the tournament, as every game is a pressure game and there is no chance for any team to have a break," Akram stated.
