Navi Mumbai: The upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is set to develop a dedicated terminal exclusively for movie stars, billionaire businessmen, and high-ranking politicians. This VVIP terminal will be part of NMIA's future expansion plans, scheduled to begin following the airport's commercial inauguration. Documentation reveals that construction for this terminal is planned to start in Fiscal Year 2026, aiming for completion by 2030.
This terminal will cater to not only central and state government officials like governors, chief ministers, and defense personnel, but will also function as a general aviation terminal for celebrities and other notable figures. An unnamed official emphasized that eligibility criteria for using the terminal will be determined later, suggesting a selective access policy.

In addition, the VVIP terminal will serve the family of the airport's promoters, indicating its significance in accommodating private and privileged travel needs. The establishment of this terminal reflects broader trends in airport infrastructure where exclusivity and enhanced services for high-profile individuals are increasingly prioritized.
Currently, the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International airport in Mumbai, lacks a dedicated VVIP terminal, making this planned facility at NMIA a noteworthy development. NMIA is managed by a joint venture between Adani Airport Holdings Ltd and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra, and it is anticipated to commence commercial operations after May 15.

Currently, Mumbai International Airport Doesn’t Have Separate Terminal For VIPs and VVIPs
The introduction of a VVIP terminal at Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) signifies a strategic enhancement aimed at attracting high-income travelers and ensuring a bespoke travel experience for the elites.
On February 26, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) assessed that Mumbai’s new green airport, Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), is 90% complete. The operator has applied for the mandatory clearance, indicating progress.
NMIA is seeking to ease congestion at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), which operates with a single runway. Phase 1 includes a terminal with a capacity of 20 million passengers per year, while NMIA will handle 10-12 million, with 9 million domestic and 3 million international. The second phase, expected to be operational by the end of 2028, will have a capacity of 30 million. In addition, a VIP terminal and a permanent air traffic control tower will be built in the third phase.
