Mumbai: A first-year MBBS student was threatened and extorted for ₹10,000 in Mumbai’s Dongri area on the night of March 5. An FIR was registered on March 6 against three unidentified persons.

According to the police, the student, who is pursuing his MBBS at Sir JJ Hospital, had gone to a nearby restaurant for dinner around 9 PM. As he was leaving, a man stopped him and asked, "Are you new to this area? What are you doing here? This is our territory. Don’t you know us?"

When the student replied that he didn’t recognize him, the man lured him into a narrow lane, where he called two accomplices. The trio then threatened the student, demanding money and warning him that he would be killed if he refused.

At that moment, the student didn’t have any cash. Under pressure, he called his father and requested ₹5,000 via PhonePe and borrowed another ₹5,000 from a friend. The accused then forced him to scan a QR code and make four separate transactions, totaling ₹10,000.

Following the incident, the student filed a complaint with Dongri police, who registered an FIR against three unidentified accused under sections 308(3), 308(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.
