Applications are being accepted for the MSc Health Economics and Decision Modelling programme at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom, which will begin in September 2025. Course overview:

This course focusses on assessing the clinical results, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency of healthcare resources, ranging from novel medications and public health campaigns to screening programmes and diagnostic instruments. It is intended to give students the useful skills they need to influence healthcare policy and decision-making and promote healthier lifestyles.

Students can investigate the process of performing economic evaluations, modelling the cost-effectiveness of healthcare interventions, and conducting assessments of health technology, in addition to studying economic principles that are essential to comprehending the healthcare industry. In addition, the course discusses clinical trials, medical statistics, evidence synthesis, and how mathematical modelling and simulations influence healthcare decision-making.

Research project:

There is also training in research methods for students who do the MSc programme, a three-month research project based on the models and healthcare problems they’ve studied. This gives students  the opportunity to lead their own study in an external organisation, such as an academic unit, the NHS or in industry.
