Jaipur: A Gangster demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore from a businessman in Jaipur. The police provided him the security, but now sent him a hefty bill of Rs 76.17 lakh in lieu of this. The issue triggered uproar in Rajasthan Vidhansabha on Thursday.
Congress MLA from Bundi Harimohan Sharma raised this issue in the house and said that a criminal threatened businessman from jail to extort money. The police provided him the security and in return handed over a notice to deposit Rs 76 lakh.

The Leader of Opposition, Tikaram Julie said that this is a serious issue. The government should reply to this, but no response came from the government. Notably, in December 2023, gangster Rohit Godara allegedly called Ramesh Chand Narnauli, a businessman of Jaipur and demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore. After investigation, the police deployed two gunmen for the security of the businessman. Now on February 23, 2025, he has been given a demand notice to deposit Rs 76. 17 lakh for this security.
The businessman said that he was not aware money would be demanded for providing security. The police should have informed him about this. “Will people have to pay money to the police for safety from gangsters,” asked the businessman.
Jaipur Commissioner Biju George Joseph said that it is to be ascertained that whether the police provided security on their own or the businessman had asked for it.n security. The status of the notice will be clear only after investigation.
