Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) and Tata Motors on Wednesday launched a co-branded diesel exhaust fluid 'Genuine DEF,' amid an increasing demand for such solutions across the diesel-powered vehicles.
The solution will be available across 23,000 fuel stations of the government-owned oil marketing company, besides over 2,000 authorized outlets of the automobile major, will drive optimal vehicle performance, besides extending vehicle longevity, HPCL said at the launch here.
The two partners also said that they see potential collaboration in other areas as well including in the circular economy and fuel loyalty program, among others, going forward.
An essential component for modern BS6-compliant diesel vehicles, DEF is an important element in reducing harmful emissions by breaking down potentially harmful nitrogen oxides into safer and cleaner nitrogen and water.
"Our partnership with Tata Motors for co-branded DEF is a significant step toward reducing emissions and supporting cleaner transportation solutions," said Amit Garg, Director of marketing at Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd.
Stating that there is a need to educate the people about the local and spurious brands available in the market, he said that 20-million customers come to these pan-India fuel outlets every day and the collaboration can amplify these numbers by 20-million times in terms of spreading the message about the awareness.
HPCL is the largest player in the DEF segment in the county and forging a partnership with another big player will be beneficial for it, he said, adding in the last two years every single vertical of the company has gained market share.

He said that genuine diesel exhaust fluid is available at over 2,000 Tata Motors authorized outlets and more than 10,000 multi brand retail outlets.
"As emission norms in India evolve, fleet operators and vehicle owners can now rely on co-branded DEF to meet these new standards, ensuring a seamless transition to environmental responsibilities," Wagh said.
