New Delhi: A video of an IRCTC staffer throwing garbage on railway tracks has surfaced online. The video, with text overlay, “Who is responsible?" is now going viral. In the footage, the IRCTC staffer could be seen emptying the overflowing dustbin onto the tracks from a moving train. After the video went viral, the Indian Railways remove the staffer and a heavy penalty was also imposed.

Some passengers of the train could be heard urging the IRCTC staff not to throw garbage on the tracks. However, he defended his actions. The staffer claimed that where should he empty the dustbin as there was no other place to dispose of the garbage. 

Video Of The Incident:

The Indian Railways took cognizance of the incident after the video went viral. "There is a well settled mechanism for garbage disposal in our Indian Railways. OBHS staff which had violated the same, has been removed and heavy penalty has been imposed. Further, the staff is being counselled to ensure proper cleanliness of the trains and railway premises," the Indian Railways tweeted.

The video shows the staffer tossing garbage onto the tracks from a moving train as onlookers urge him to stop. He ignores them all, and, at one point, even justifies his actions by claiming there’s nowhere else to dispose of it.
The video was shared with a caption. "A senior IRCTC official throws garbage right from a moving train despite warnings. Scary to even imagine."

Indian Railways' Response:

In a video, when a passenger questioned the staffer by saying, "Then why dustbin is placed here?", the staffer did not respond and kept throwing the garbage on tracks. 

After he emptied the dustbin onto the tracks, the IRCTC staffer said, “It was full. Where else should we empty it?"

Netizens Reaction:

One of the X users wrote, "What's the point of having a dustbin, if the garbage is supposed to be thrown out of train like this!"

Another User wrote, "This is all about one's mentality and upbringing. Even taking official action will not change such behavior."

It is not the first time that such incidents have taken place. In December 2023 s also, a similar video of a railway staff throwing garbage on tracks from a moving train had surfaced.
