Singer Kalpana Raghavendar, known for crooning Tamil and Telugu films' songs, has denied suicide attempt and revealed she lost consciousness after popping as many as 18 insomnia pills. For those unversed, Kalpana was rushed to the hospital after she was found unconscious at her residence in Nizampet, Hyderabad.

Now, according to a report in Onmanorama, Kalpana clarified that she accidentally overdosed on insomnia tablets due to stress over differences with her daughter regarding her education.

"I took eight tablets but was still unable to sleep. I took another 10 tablets and lost consciousness. I don’t know what happened after that," Kalpana reportedly told the police.

Kalpana’s daughter also dismissed rumours of a suicide attempt, saying, "Please don't misinterpret anything. Our family is doing well, and my mom will be back in a few days."

According to KPHB police, Kalpana and her husband have been residing in Nizampet for the past five years. On March 3, she had an argument with her daughter, Daya Prasad, as Kalpana wanted her to study in Hyderabad, but Daya refused. After returning from Ernakulam on March 4, Kalpana struggled to sleep despite several attempts.

A couple of days back, it was reportedly that Kalpana allegedly attempted suicide. According to media reports, security officials stated that Kalpana didn't open the door and her neighbours contacted the police, seeking help. When cops opened the door, they found the 44-year-old singer unconscious.

When the incident happened, Kalpana's husband, Prabhakar, was Chennai, but he rushed to Hyderabad immediately. It was also stated that the singer's condition was critical and she was put on ventilator support.
