Thane: The Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a surveyor while accepting a bribe of Rs 75,000 in Thane on Wednesday. An ACB officer detained the deputy superintendent of land records, Thane. The ACB sleuths laid a trap after receiving complaints about the officers.
The officer has been identified as Changdev Mohalkar, who is posted at the Thane land record office as deputy superintendent, and Shrikant Rawate, a surveyor, who is posted at the Thane land record office.
The ACB sources said that the complainant had some work in the department and visited there where Mohalkar demanded a bribe. The complainant stated in the complaint that Mohalkar took Rs 1,55,000 from the complainant for the measurement of the land earlier. He approached the ACB office and filed a complaint.
Following the complaint, upon verifying it, Rawate allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh from the complainant for the land survey. Later it was settled for Rs 75,000. During the verification of the complaint, it was revealed that Mohalkar encouraged Rawate to accept the bribe.
According to the ACB officials, on Wednesday, they laid a trap at the location, and Rawate was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 75,000. Mohalkar was detained in connection with the matter. Further investigation is underway.
A case was registered at Thane Nagar Police Station under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act.
